Emotional Intelligence or EQ

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the personal and social aspect of overall intelligence that is essential to effective daily functioning. The need for emotional intelligence increases with higher levels of responsibility in managing individuals and teams. EQ also plays a critical role in conflict resolution. Daniel Goleman introduced the wider world to the idea that Emotional Intelligence matters more than ‘traditional’ intelligence for career success, organizational performance, relationships and general happiness.

What does EQ look like?
Emotionally Intelligent people know what they are feeling and why and can express these feelings accurately. They are assertive, independent, motivated, flexible and are able to cope well with stress. They intuitively grasp what others want and need and can respond in the appropriate way. They can control their emotions so that they work for them and not against them. They are optimistic, are good problem solvers and are socially responsible.

Can EQ be measured?
Yes. While IQ is the standard test for measuring cognitive intelligence it is now possible to measure emotional intelligence in a similar way using a valid and reliable tool. At Aquila we are qualified in the most scientific tool on the market, often referred to as the international ‘gold standard,’ for measuring EQ.
